  • 8 hot dogs
  • 4 slices American cheese, each cut into 6 strips
  • 1 can Pillsbury refrigerated crescent dinner rolls


Heat gas or charcoal grill for indirect cooking over medium heat.

Slit hot dogs to within 1/2 inch of ends.

Insert 3 strips of cheese into each slit.

Separate dough into 8 triangles. Wrap 1 dough triangle around each hot dog.

Place crescent dogs on double thickness of heavy-duty foil sprayed with cooking spray, about 2 inches apart. Place foil on grill over indirect heat; cover.

Cook 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown

Preheat grill to medium heat (350º to 375ºF). Mix honey, mustard and mayonnaise in small bowl set aside. Unroll crescent dough separate at seams into 8 triangles. Lightly brush each triangle with honey mustard sauce. Cover and refrigerate any remaining honey mustard sauce.

Place 1 beef frank on shortest side of each triangle. Roll up crescent dough around each beef frank, starting at shortest side of triangle and rolling to opposite point. Place each wrapped beef frank, with the point side down, about 2 inches apart onto shallow baking pan or double-layer of heavy-duty foil sprayed with no stick cooking spray.

Place pan on warming rack (top rack) of grill. Close lid. Grill 20 to 25 minutes or until dough is cooked through and golden brown.

How to grill without a warming rack: It is best to place the baking pan on the warming rack (top rack) of grill to prevent the crescent dough from burning. If your grill does not have a warming rack, prepare your grill for indirect grilling and place the baking pan on the unlit side of the grill. Serving Suggestion: To serve as appetizers, cut each wrapped beef frank into 4 pieces. Spear each piece with a toothpick. Serve with remaining honey mustard sauce for dipping.

I usually don&rsquot ask the kids what they want for dinner because it almost always ends up in them fighting for their favorite. If I just make something, they&rsquoll usually eat it and everyone&rsquos happy.

Well, recently I made what ended up being a very delicious mistake in asking them what they wanted for dinner. Two of them wanted hot dogs and one wanted grilled cheese sandwiches. There was lots of begging and bribing from all of them as I was trying to decide which one to make. Both easy requests, so I can&rsquot really complain, but I wanted everyone to be happy so it just dawned on me to combine the two and see what they thought.

No surprise, but they LOVED them and so did I! What&rsquos not to love about a buttery crisp hot dog bun filled with lots of melted cheese and a juicy grilled hot dog?! So dang delicious&hellip

And so easy to make! You just roll the buns flat and spread the outside with butter. Place the bun, butter side down, on a medium-heated skillet and sprinkle it with shredded cheese. Then you&rsquoll slice a hot dog length-wise so it&rsquos still connected, but will lay flat on the skillet. Place the flat side of the hot dog on the skillet along with the bun and let it grill for a few minutes until it just starts to brown. Transfer the hot dog to one side of the bun and sprinkle it with more shredded cheese. Close up the bun and let continue to grill until all of the cheese is melted.

And that&rsquos all there is to it. Grilled cheesy hot dog goodness that&rsquos so great you&rsquoll never want to go back to a regular grilled cheese or a regular hot dog again.

When you think about summer baseball games and cookouts, what's the first food to come to mind? Aside from burgers, the next food in line is likely the hot dog.

The humble hot dog has a storied past. Hot dogs were first sold in the U.S. by German immigrants in New York back in the 1860s. The man to popularize the hot dog that we know and love today, however, was Nathan Handwerker from Poland, who, in 1915, worked at a hot dog stand in Coney Island, slicing buns for $11 a week. He ditched that gig, and one year later, he founded Nathan's Famous hot dogs. Needless to say, the hot dog is a cherished American food. But do you know the best way to cook hot dogs at home?

We sought to discover a method that would allow us to make the best hot dogs. Is it on the grill? Boiled on the stovetop? Cooked in the microwave? We called on the head chef of Hello Fresh, Claudia Sidoti, to give us tips on how to cook hot dogs the right way.

What's the best way to cook hot dogs?

"The best way to cook a hot dog is hands-down using the grill," says Sidoti. "The grill will give you the best flavor and make them smoky on the outside but hot and juicy on the inside."

How can I make the perfect hot dog at home?

Sidoti provides a step-by-step guide on how you can whip up delicious hot dogs on your grill at home.

  1. Place the hot dogs over medium heat. Keep half of the grill unheated.
  2. Keep turning them to get grill marks and watch carefully. When the hot dogs begin to expand, they're done.
  3. Roll them over to the unheated part of the grill and place your buns over the burners. The buns will take about a minute.
  4. Immediately place hot dogs in the buns so any juices go into the bread.

Pro tip: Do not use high or low heat be sure it's medium. High heat will char the outside but potentially leave the inside ice-cold. Low heat will cause the dogs to take too long to heat and won't give you a crispy crust.

What are some non-traditional ways to eat a hot dog?

While you can never go wrong chowing down on a traditional hot dog, we asked Sidoti to tell us what other ways she likes to incorporate hot dogs into meals.

Instant Pot Cheat-Grilled Hot Dogs

Who says it needs to be summer to grill Hot Dogs? In fact, who says you need a GRILL to grill Hot Dogs? Nope! All you need is an Instant Pot with the Air Fryer Lid or Ninja Foodi to not only make the perfect hot dog, but to also do it mess-free, hassle-free and smokey-free!

I’m not kidding when I tell you that this may well be the easiest recipe on the planet. So forget the charcoal. The only char you’ll be getting here is the perfect crisp on your hot dog. So grab a pack with some buns because whether it’s the middle of summer or the dead of winter, you’ll be enjoying hot dogs anytime right at home!

Here’s How I Made It!:

If using the Instant Pot, place the air fryer basket in the pot with the divider in place. If using the Ninja Foodi, place the trivet in liner pot with the grill in the position where it’s closer to the top of the lid.

Once pre-heated, lay a few hot dogs on the divider of the basket or the trivet (and do it so the lines of the trivet’s rack go in the opposite direction of the hot dogs – this makes for a nice aesthetic when cooked).

To ensure even cooking, take a pairing knife and lightly lacerate the surface of each hot dog into four diagonal cuts.

It’ll be tough to see now, but once cooked, it’s gonna look fabulous!

Place the air fryer lid on top and and bake/roast/cheat-grill for a few minutes (NO FLIPPING REQUIRED!)

When done, those dogs are gonna be PERFECT!

…and remove the hot dogs to a plate.

If you wish to have a bit of a toasted bun, add a few to the trivet, face-side-up.

Add the lid and cook for just a few moments.

Look how pretty the buns will be when done toasting!

Arrange your hot dog by placing it in a bun…

…and dressing it up however you want!

Mmmm…mustard and relish for me! (For an insane Chili Dog, pour some of my Blue Ribbon Chili over them!)

…and then take me out to the ball game…ON MY COUCH!
